What Do Families
Need To Know About
New Mexico PreK?
New Mexico PreK is for children who are 3 and 4 years of age.
Since NM PreK runs during the school year, children must have turned 3 or 4 by September 1st of the enrollment year. 3-year-olds enroll in early PreK. 4-year-olds enroll in PreK.
Some NM PreK programs do not accept 3-year-olds; be sure to check with the programs in your local community!
NM PreK is available in schools, as well as in child care centers, churches, homes, and more.
To find a NM PreK program near you visit the New Mexico Child Care Finder.
PreK sets little ones up for a lifetime of success. Children who attend PreK have better outcomes when starting school and are better off long-term in math, reading, and high school graduation.
PreK builds skills in ways that traditional childcare does not. In PreK, children learn how to follow rules in a group, develop social and motor skills, discuss and name their emotions, and learn through play. PreK is an active and engaging learning experience that prepares your child for a bright future.
